Family spending dataset

Data on family spending compiled using the Living Costs and Food Survey (successor to the Family Expenditure Survey and the National Food Survey)

Open Government License: Allows re-use of information free of charge citing ‘Office for National Statistics licensed under the Open Government Licence v.2.0.’. Any adaptation should be highlighted.


Annual data since 2000 for family spending on: Food and non-alcoholic drinks; recreation and culturel transport; housing fuel and power; alcoholic drinks, tobacco and narcotics; education; health; clothing and footwear; communication; restaurants and hotels; household goods and services.

Data and analysis is also provided on trends over time and household spending by income group.


The data is accompanied by a variety of documents providing analysis and an overview of the methodology used.
