ESS Support Guide 3.2 - Writing case studies

Published29th May 2014

This support guide gives some tips on how to write case studies. It shows how case studies can help to bring your work alive. They can help funders to see that their funding is having a positive effect. They can also show potential service users how your project could benefit them. However, it is not always easy to write a good case study! This guide offers some ideas to help.

This Support Guide works through the process of deciding on the purpose and message of a proposed case study; organising content, ideas and time; drafting and editing including the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches.

Evaluation Support Scotland (ESS) works with voluntary organisations and funders so that they can measure and report on their impact.

Its aim is to make evaluation valuable, relevant and proportionate. Information about the services it provides are available on the ESS website
