English indices of deprivation

The English Indices of Deprivation provide a relative measure of deprivation at small area level across England. These areas a ranked according to their level of deprivation. The Indices have been compiled and published in 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010, and are expected to be published next in 2015.

Features

Scores are calculated by area across seven domains: income; employment; health; education, skills and training; barriers to housing and services; crime; living environment. Each small area of the country (called a Lower layer Super Output Area) is given a score in each of these areas, which creates an overall multiple deprivation score.
