Consumer Price Index

The Consumer Price Index measures inflation – showing changes to the prices of goods based on the price paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods.

The data series shows CPI trends, details the composition of the CPI measure and compares it to other measures of inflation (such as RPI). It provides index measures based on a 2005 baseline, as well as showing change over the 12 month periods.


The ONS produce a number of narrative reports to accompany this data, provide a number of bulletins and updates, as well as methodological materials.
