Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE)

Published3rd June 2014

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) provides information about the levels, distribution and make-up of earnings and hours worked for employees in all industries and occupations.

“The ASHE tables contain data on earnings (gross earning before tax) by: gender; full-time/part-time work; region; occupation; industry; and age group.

Measures of earnings include: gross weekly pay; weekly pay excluding overtime; basic pay including other pay; overtime pay; gross hourly pay, hourly pay excluding overtime, gross annual pay, annual incentive pay, total paid hours, basic paid hours and paid overtime hours.

ASHE is based on a one per cent sample of employee jobs taken from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) PAYE records. Information on earnings and hours is obtained from employers and treated confidentially. ASHE does not cover the self-employed nor does it cover employees not paid during the reference period.”
